Geolocation issues - Proxy or VPN usage
The use of a proxy or VPN (e.g., Witopia, OpenVPN, HMA, etc.) may interfere with geolocation checks. These checks are required to comply with local laws.
Therefore, programs like these must be disabled before you connect to our services so we can determine your true location.
In most cases, you will need to adjust your browser settings:
Browser Settings
Chrome
- Menu
- Settings
Finally, select disable extension in the Proxy section.
Internet Explorer
- Tools
- Internet Options
- Connections
- LAN Settings
- Uncheck the box for Proxy Server
Firefox:
- Tools
- Options
- Advanced Network
- Settings
In the Connection Settings window, ensure that the ‘No Proxy’ option is selected. Then click on the OK button to apply the changes.
(These processes may differ between the different browser versions)
Downloadable VPN/Proxy software
In the case of a downloadable VPN, you will be required to shut down all running processes of such applications.
Windows
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to access the Task Manager
- From the there you can force individual programs to close
Mac
- Open the Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder of Applications
- From there you can force individual programs to close
For proxy services that are enabled from a specific website such as HMA, your session/service must be terminated to proceed.
